10 Outdated Technologies That Refuse to Die, Seriously!

Sharing is caring!

Even in our fast-paced digital age, where technological advancements constantly beckon us to upgrade to the latest and greatest, some of us still find comfort and satisfaction in using outdated technologies.

A user asked on a forum “What technology is out of date that you still prefer to use over the new methods?”

Here are some responses he got

KNOBS & BUTTONS IN CAR & GADGETS

“I refuse to buy any vehicle with a touch screen to control anything.”

“On everything! Phones, car consoles, televisions, jukeboxes, etc. Those videos that showed all the video game buttons and cassette players made me very nostalgic. We used to be so tactile and now everything is a flat screen. I remember pushing the buttons on my ps2 back in the day. It was so satisfying!”

DATA STORAGE

“We had the storage capacity, and hardware makers could’ve kept improving it. Instead, every smartphone stopped going over some incredibly low storage like 64 GB/128 GB and 256 GB is a premium product that charges you a lot more. And they keep it low to push you into getting cloud storage, despite easily being able to produce several tb drives for the latest phones. Those storage sizes existed decades ago. Twenty years ago, my iPod had 30 GB of storage. There are phones today that have the same amount.”

PHYSICAL BOOKS & NEWSPAPERS

“Physical newspapers are awesome. I’m so glad people finally realize & hardcover and paperback don’t care. If I’m reading a book, I wanna flip pages myself.”

OLD MOTORCYCLES

“I ride old motorcycles. Carburetors and kickstarts. Modern stuff is more efficient and powerful, but I can fix this stuff over and over for very little money. I don’t need a $500 device and $400 software licensing to change my fuel ratios or engine timing. I could do it on the side of the road with a leatherman in a pinch.”

TOOLS

“I much prefer hand tools over electric tools.”

“The feel of a hand plane is infinitely better than any machine plane. Plus, it’s more accurate, and as a bonus, doesn’t destroy your hearing.”

CD DVD PLAYERS & GAME

“CD players in cars. I love that I can press a button and tell my car to play a band, cd, or song and it will; however, I miss being able to play the CDs I own easily. I love knowing my buying that cd helped support a band (especially when I’ve got the cd at a show).”

“DVDs over streaming. I like having them on display, and they can’t be edited to appease modern sensibilities. I watch DVDs all the time. I don’t have to stream at my house, not yet.”

“I much prefer cartridges for games instead of discs. There’s nothing wrong with discs, but I like the N64 and GB/GBA cartridges. I have more than the Wii and PS2/PS4 discs. I love my Switch a little more because I get to insert little cartridges like a Gameboy.”

OLD COMPUTERS

“I still have an old desktop computer at my parent’s house that I use when I visit. There is no internet or anything, just old games. I love typing papers or writing notes on them. Just hearing the old keys as I type. There is just something about it…”

KEYPAD PHONES

“Regular phoning people instead of video calls, messaging, etc.”

PEN & PAPER

“Paper and pen instead of online notepads etc., for scribbling ideas.”

“Writing lists and plans on paper. Writing it out clarifies things in my head while making a digital version puts it instantly down the memory hole.”

“I prefer writing my budget on paper instead of a spreadsheet.”

WIRED HEADPHONES

“Wired headphones/earbuds with a 3.5mm headphone jack”

“Wireless earphones, I’m too lazy to charge them, and I don’t want to recharge them every 3 hours.”
